What is happening?

Dmail Network, a decentralized privacy email service launched in 2021, announced on April 1, 2026, it will gradually shut down all operations starting May 15, 2026. The official blog post cited multiple insurmountable challenges after five years: skyrocketing decentralized infrastructure costs for bandwidth, storage, and compute that scaled exponentially with users; repeated failures to develop sustainable revenue through paid models or commercialization; DMAIL token lacking large-scale real-world use cases or closed-loop economics; crypto market crash leading to strategic misjudgments without backups; core team departures; and depleted funds from failed fundraising and acquisitions.

Users are urged to export emails via mail.dmail.ai/inbox to Gmail or other platforms and cancel accounts before May 15, after which all data (emails, NFT domains, points) deletes permanently and nodes cease, making access impossible.

The team expressed regret and gratitude, hoping for a future relaunch but bowing to reality. Coverage spread April 2–3 across Cointelegraph, Phemex, Binance Square, highlighting Web3 sustainability woes.
